With all the crazy things happenign in the world today, i decided to take a closer look at what i feel is a escalating problem in the United States. Gun Violence. Looking at the top countires with the highest murder rates. The United States ranks 24th. 24th!!!!!!!!!! That might seem low on the scale, but when you take into account that their are over 200 countries in the world, a 1st world country in almost the top 10% of most murderous countries blows my mind. Countries following our high rank go as follows...
25. Armenia
26. India
27. Yemen
28. Dominincana
29. Azerbaijan
30. Finland ( The only other 1st world country in the top 30 countries)
I truly and full heartily believe that we need stricter laws that can be enforced with more ease. Though i do recognize that to some people guns are a way of live what else would gun store owners sell? How would hit men take out their targets?
If I was president i would take away guns from all citizens, only law enforcement such as police, security, and other law enforcement agency's similar to those would have access to weapons. I can see no reason for a regular civilian to own a gun! The only thing i can see coming from that situation is a child finding it and learning to be comfortable around guns, maybe buying one later on and perhaps using it to murder or hurt people.
This is an outrageous issue and their need to be updates laws supporting a better safer nation. If that means changing the 2nd amendment " right to bear arms" than so be it. Change is a part of evolution.

Wow, this is an outstanding post...maybe even something to keep in mind for our junior theme. I agree with you that it is completely ridiculous that a 1st world country is on this list, and that although there would be outrage if anything about the ammendment allowing us to bear arms is changed, something obviously has to be done. For some people it is very important to them for security to have a gun, but in certain places, guns are bought illegally and this needs to be stopped. Again, great post, i hope it gets more notariety
Josh,
Great rant! Were you serious about if guns were outlawed, "what else would gun store owners sell? How would hit men take out their targets?"?
Otherwise, it is sobering to look at stats like this. After all, if the USA is supposed to occupy some moral high ground, what do these stats prove?
However, it would be wise to AOS. After all, Washington DC has some of the highest murder rates in the country, yet they have the strictest gun control laws. In fact, one of their laws is the subject of an upcoming 2nd Amendment Supreme Court Case. Here's a link. Be sure to follow the news regarding this pending case and mention it in class for a discussion starter.
Also consider the intentions of the Founders. What might be the rationale for the 2nd Amendment back in 1789?
You should be choked by having all four pieces of parchment the Constitution is wrote on shoved down your throat.
Is it only us is offended by the attempt of these left wing radicals to hijack the concept of non-violence from lawful gun owners? We, as gun owners, were anti-violence before these groups were even heard of. We don't carry guns to commit crimes. We carry guns to prevent crimes, you idiots!
They want your friends and neighbors who don't own guns to think you are a criminal for owning a firearm. And they can't think of any other way to get their point across without lying.
The anti-gun bigots need to admit the real purpose for these attacks.............
I will use YOUR "fact" to prove this makes no sense at all.
Well first off even if those numbers are right, there are many reason why they may not be. The laws in each country are different and so are how things are reported.
Second the link you gave was for total Murders not Murders by firearms.
Your link says 0.042802 per 1,000 people are murdered. Then it says 0.0279271 per 1,000 people are murdered with firearms. Based on the link YOU provided about HALF of the murders were NOT using firearms. What do you plan to do to stop the murders that did not use a firearm? How come when objects are used for bad the people are blamed but when it comes to firearms the object is blamed? Seems like a double standard to me.
Here is another quote from you "I truly and full heartily believe that we need stricter laws that can be enforced with more ease". What kind of stricter laws do you suggest that CRIMINALS (look up criminal = people that dont follow the law) will follow? If you are worried about murder, but it seems like you are more worried about objects (firearms) why not just write a law that makes it illegal to kill people? If laws stopped CRIMINALS that is all you would need right?
" If I was president i would take away guns from all citizens". How would you do that? For decades now drugs have been illegal and yet not only have they not gone away they have gotten worse. So by making firearms illegal only the law abiding (non criminal) people (not the people causing the problems) will be without guns. By doing this the problem will become worse as the criminals (the ones causing the problems now) will be the ONLY ones with guns. How does that make sense?
"only law enforcement such as police, security, and other law enforcement agency's similar to those would have access to weapons." Are you aware that the ONLY documented miss use of LEGAL (yes full auto guns are still legal) Full Auto guns has been by LEO's?
"I can see no reason for a regular civilian to own a gun! The only thing i can see coming from that situation is a child finding it and learning to be comfortable around guns, maybe buying one later on and perhaps using it to murder or hurt people. "
Just because you see no reason does not mean there is not one. I bet you do several things that I see no reason for but that does not mean I want to stop you from doing it. Your statement here is that a object is going to make someone a do "evil" things. Do you FEEL (and I do mean feel as there is NO fact behind this) this way about other objects or just about guns? Since drunk drivers kill TWICE as many people in a year does that mean anyone that has ever drank and has ever driven a car (not at the same time) will "and perhaps using it to murder or hurt people."? It is the exact same logic. From YOUR site 9,369 (not sure what year) people were murdered with firearms. From http://www.adcouncil.org/default.aspx?id=49 TWICE the number of people were killed by drunk drivers, TWICE. Why are you not trying to take away cars and drinking?
"If that means changing the 2nd amendment " right to bear arms" than so be it. Change is a part of evolution. " So if there are parts of the BOR that I dont like then we should just be able to change it? So if I dont like the fact that you are free to post things like this should we change the 1st? How about changing all the rest. The point that you even make this suggestion means that you do not understand the BOR and what they mean.
