A secret message is the double meaning you have when you do anything.
If you see someone who buys their grocery's at Whole Foods, the literal meaning suggests that they shop at whole foods, however their is much more to that statement.
Someone lugging one of the linen bags from whole foods could be wealthier than most because they can afford the organic food. They also might be paranoid because they don't trust the farmers with chemicals. I would also assume that they care about the environment because they don't want the use of pesticides in their food.
The secret message view by other people is bias. We don't really know for sure that any of this is true. We are assuming that Whole Food shoppers are Eco-friendly when they would just live close to the store and not want to drive long distances. Do not always judge by these secret messages.

This is really interesting.I never really thought about what shoping at whole foods could mean before. I do agree about how there could be a bias for people about their wealth because the food there is really expensive, but I also agree on the idea about how most people there are enviromentalists and only buy organic food becasue they don't trust the farmers. It also possibly be an indicator for some people that people that shop there are almost paranoid about their food and health if they only eat organic food. Just a thought. Nice work!!
Hey josh good point of view. I never really noticed things like that till you brought it up. That to some people it's embarrasing to be seen at dominicks or cosco, but if you go and buy things so much overpriced that it makes you feel better. I think its interesting too that at for example trader joes they don't have as many name brands but products made by the trader joes company but for example if i see someone with something by Safeway or Save-On instead of a name brand like Johnson and Johnson or just a cheaper knock off of lays potoatoe chips i would think they're poor but really maybe they want to spend their money on something more worth while or something better than JUST eating organic or using organ dish soap or orgainic shampoo.
